A new picturesque destination, dubbed the “Kiss Bridge,” has recently been unveiled, offering couples a romantic backdrop against the stunning Vietnamese sunset. Situated on Phu Quoc Island in southern Vietnam, renowned for its pristine beaches, this unique bridge is the result of a collaboration between Italian architect Marco Casamonti and luxury tourism developer Sun Group.
Spanning an impressive length of over 800 meters (approximately half a mile), the bridge is distinctive in its design, consisting of two separate halves. The inspiration behind the structure draws from Michelangelo’s iconic fresco painting, “The Creation of Adam,” located in the Sistine Chapel. Just like the outstretched fingers in the renowned artwork, the two halves of the bridge do not quite touch, maintaining a deliberate gap.
The north and south sections of the bridge are intentionally separated by a mere 30 centimeters (about 12 inches). This specific distance requires couples to position themselves on each side, creating a theatrical lean-in for the quintessential romantic kiss. Remarkably, the precision of the gap between the bridge’s halves ensures that on January 1st of every year, the sun aligns directly within this space, enhancing the bridge’s allure, according to the Sun Group.
Named “Cau Hon” in Vietnamese, which translates to “proposing marriage,” the bridge carries additional significance, potentially serving as a fitting location for couples looking to take their relationship to the next level.
The Kiss Bridge finds its home in Phu Quoc Island’s Sunset Town, situated in Vietnam’s southern province of Kien Giang. Accessible with a 40-minute flight from Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc has earned a reputation as Vietnam’s premier island getaway, particularly favored by honeymooners.
Sun Group, the development entity behind this project, has previously undertaken similar ventures, notably the “Golden Bridge” near Da Nang. This bridge features two colossal hands supporting a shimmering structure, positioned more than 1,400 meters (approximately 4593.18 feet) above sea level and stretching 150 meters (about 492.13 ft) in length.
Phu Quoc, recognizing the significance of tourism, has heavily invested in infrastructure. The island boasts upscale hotels from renowned brands such as Regent, InterContinental, and JW Marriott. With the addition of the Kiss Bridge, Phu Quoc now offers yet another captivating attraction for visitors to experience and enjoy.
This latest architectural marvel not only showcases the beauty of the island but also provides couples with a unique and enchanting setting to create lasting memories against the backdrop of Vietnam’s captivating sunsets. As tourists continue to explore this island paradise, the Kiss Bridge stands as a testament to the ongoing efforts to enhance the tourism experience on Phu Quoc.
