The consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya is scheduled for January 22, drawing attention and comments from various political figures. Udhayanidhi Stalin, a prominent leader of the DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) and a minister in Tamil Nadu, has stated that his party is not in agreement with the construction of a temple that was built after demolishing a mosque.
Udhayanidhi Stalin, the son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, made these remarks during a press conference in Chennai. He emphasized that the DMK, led by his grandfather MK Karunanidhi, does not oppose any particular religion or faith. However, he clarified that their concern lies with the construction of a temple following the demolition of a mosque. The statement appears to reference the controversial demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya in 1992.
The DMK Youth Wing chief asserted that there is no issue with the construction of a temple, but the party opposes the idea of building it after the destruction of a mosque. He highlighted the importance of keeping religion separate from politics and referred to a statement by the DMK Treasurer, T R Baalu, who had emphasized the need to avoid mixing spirituality with politics.
The consecration ceremony for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya is a significant event scheduled for January 22. Various political figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have been invited to participate. However, the event has faced controversy as several Opposition parties, including the Congress, CPI(M), and TMC, declined the invitation, accusing the BJP of attempting to gain political advantage from a religious ceremony.
The Supreme Court, in a landmark decision in 2019, ordered the construction of the Ram Temple on the disputed site in Ayodhya, where the Babri Masjid once stood. The court also directed the authorities to allocate a separate parcel of land for the construction of a grand mosque.
Udhayanidhi Stalin, known for making controversial statements, had sparked a major row in September of the previous year with his remark about Sanatana dharma. He suggested that Sanatana dharma, an ancient term often used to describe Hinduism, was against the idea of social justice and needed to be eradicated. The BJP strongly criticized Stalin, accusing him of playing appeasement politics.
As the Ram Temple consecration ceremony approaches, the differing opinions and decisions of political parties regarding participation in the event continue to generate discussions and debates in the political landscape.
