Malaysia is making its presence known at the 12th Jeddah International Travel and Tourism Exhibition (JTTX), seeking to attract more visitors from the rapidly growing Saudi Arabian market. This key event connects international tourism players with decision-makers, making it an ideal platform for Malaysia to showcase its diverse offerings.
Leading the charge is Deputy Director-General Datuk Musa Haji Yusof, accompanied by seven renowned travel agencies and five prominent hotels and resorts. Their participation emphasizes Malaysia’s commitment to catering to Muslim travelers, having been named the “Top Muslim-Friendly Destination of The Year” for the second consecutive year by the MasterCard-Crescent Rating Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2023.
Further solidifying its appeal to Muslim women, Malaysia also received the “Muslim Women-Friendly Destination of The Year” recognition based on factors like halal food availability, prayer facilities, and Muslim-friendly hotel services.
Datuk Yusof values collaborations with airlines like Saudia, Air Arabia, and Al Mosafer (Seera), believing they will drive tourist arrivals from Saudi Arabia. Special tour packages are being developed in preparation for Visit Malaysia Year 2026, further enticing potential visitors.
The results are promising. From January to September 2023, Malaysia welcomed over 38,000 Saudi tourists, exceeding the 2022 figure. Aiming for 27.3 million tourists and MYR102.7 billion in revenue in 2024, Malaysia is on track to achieve its ambitious goal of 35.6 million foreign visitors by Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
