After months of speculation, the rumors surrounding the filming location for the highly anticipated third season of HBO’s acclaimed series, “The White Lotus,” have been officially confirmed – the next chapter of the hit show is set to unfold in the stunning landscapes of Thailand. In joint statements released by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and HBO, it was revealed that filming for the satirical dark comedy-drama, created by Mike White, is slated to commence in February. The captivating locales chosen include Bangkok, Phuket, and Ko Samui.
Despite the scheduled release of the third season not until 2025, the Tourism Authority of Thailand is already gearing up for the show’s spotlight, collaborating with HBO to ensure seamless filming and effective promotion of the award-winning series.
Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, expressed her excitement about this collaboration, stating, “We are honored to have amazing Thailand featured as the filming location for the highly anticipated upcoming season of ‘The White Lotus.'” She emphasized that Thailand’s exotic natural beauty, rich historical sites, and diverse landscapes provide the perfect backdrop to showcase the country’s culture, cuisine, wellness offerings, luxury experiences, and, most importantly, the warmth of Thai hospitality.
Janet Graham Borba, EVP of production at HBO & Max, echoed this sentiment, saying, “We are pleased to partner with the Tourism Authority of Thailand to execute Mike’s creative vision and showcase all that the beautiful country of Thailand has to offer as the next group of guests check in to the White Lotus.”
The choice of Thailand as the filming location aligns seamlessly with the series’ tradition of featuring luxurious settings in globally renowned tourist destinations. Seasons one and two unfolded against the backdrop of opulent hotels in Hawaii and Sicily, respectively, captivating audiences with the transformative experiences of guests and employees during a week at a lavish resort. Notably, Four Seasons properties represented the fictional White Lotus resort in both these seasons, namely the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea and the San Domenico Palace in Sicily.
Online speculation has been rife, suggesting that the third season might unfold within one of Thailand’s Four Seasons properties, located in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Koh Samui, and Bangkok. However, the luxury hotel brand has chosen to remain tight-lipped on the matter, neither confirming nor denying the rumors.
Addressing the returning cast, it’s revealed that, similar to the conclusion of the first season, many fans were initially disappointed to learn that characters from season one wouldn’t return for the second installment. However, HBO surprised audiences by bringing back Jennifer Coolidge to reprise her role as the beloved but clueless wealthy traveler, Tanya.
For season three, HBO has announced a fresh list of actors, including the return of Natasha Rothwell in her role as Belinda, the spa manager at the White Lotus resort in Hawaii. Other cast members include Jason Isaacs, Michelle Monaghan, Parker Posey, Leslie Bibb, Dom Hetrakul, and Tayme Thapthimthong.
As the scenic beauty of Thailand prepares to play a pivotal role in the unfolding narrative of ‘The White Lotus’ season three, audiences worldwide eagerly anticipate another captivating and visually stunning chapter in this celebrated HBO series. The collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand promises to showcase the country’s allure, further enhancing the global appeal of ‘The White Lotus’ as it continues its exploration of luxury, intrigue, and transformative experiences in exotic settings.
