“Latest Report Highlights Achievements in Sustainability at IMEX Frankfurt 2023”

The release of IMEX Frankfurt’s sustainability report for 2023 marks a significant milestone in the event’s ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility. With the 2024 event on the horizon, organizers are keen to showcase the progress made in waste reduction and energy conservation during the previous year’s gathering.

In preparation for the upcoming IMEX Frankfurt event slated for May 14-16, organizers have unveiled a detailed report outlining the sustainable practices implemented and lessons learned from the 2023 edition. This comprehensive document not only highlights the achievements but also sheds light on areas for improvement, providing valuable insights for the broader event planning community.

Carina Bauer, CEO of the IMEX Group, emphasized the importance of sharing these findings: “Our second sustainability report, produced in collaboration with MeetGreen®, allows us to compare our current practices with those of 2022. By sharing our successes and challenges, we hope to inspire others in the industry to integrate sustainability into their own events.”

Key highlights from the report include the introduction of reusable signage, resulting in an 85% reduction in printed materials compared to the previous year. Efforts to promote sustainable food choices led to a significant decrease in carbon-intensive options, with beef making up less than 5% of the menu and vegetarian/vegan options comprising 58% of sales.

Exhibitors also played a crucial role in sustainability efforts, with initiatives such as transporting materials by bicycle and reducing the use of disposable stands by 38% compared to 2019. The introduction of electric buses for attendee transportation further contributed to the event’s efforts to reduce CO2 emissions.

Looking ahead, Carina outlined the organization’s long-term sustainability goals, including a commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2030. This initiative, part of the Net Zero Carbon Events initiative, reflects IMEX’s vision for a sustainable global events industry and its alignment with the goals of the Paris Agreement.

The success of IMEX Frankfurt’s sustainability initiatives is attributed to collaborative efforts involving the IMEX team, the host city and venue, key suppliers, and attendees. Participants are encouraged to commit to the People and Planet Pledge, while exhibitors receive guidance through the IMEX Sustainable Exhibiting Guide.

The sustainability report for IMEX Frankfurt 2023 is available for download, providing valuable insights and inspiration for future events. Registration for IMEX Frankfurt 2024 is now open and free of charge, offering participants the opportunity to join in the journey towards a greener future.
