In a noteworthy development catering to the interests of wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers, the Chandaka-Dampara Wildlife Sanctuary in Bhubaneshwar has recently introduced a night safari. Spearheaded under the Bharatpur Section, this pioneering initiative was officially announced by Susanta Nanda, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife).
Operating from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM daily, this innovative night trail offers a distinctive opportunity for tourists, students, and wildlife enthusiasts to explore the sanctuary during the nocturnal hours. The commencement of this initiative was met with great excitement, particularly among school children, who were treated to an extraordinary wildlife experience in the heart of Bhubaneswar City. PCCF Susanta Nanda shared the enthusiasm on his personal social media handle, emphasizing the unique nature of the venture.
To facilitate the night safari experience, a fleet of at least 12 vehicles has been arranged to transport visitors into the jungle after dusk. However, it’s important to note that the safari will be off-limits for regular visitors from 9:00 PM until 9:30 AM the following morning.
This night safari isn’t solely an entertaining endeavor; it also serves educational purposes. Participants will have the opportunity to observe and learn about various wildlife species, including deer, elephant, barking deer, porcupine, and wild boar, in their natural habitats. According to PCCF Susanta Nanda, this unique experience is particularly beneficial for individuals who find it challenging to visit the sanctuary during daylight hours.
The night trail is divided into three distinct time slots, operating between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM every day. Booking for the initial slot begins at 6:00 PM, followed by subsequent slots at 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM. This scheduling ensures a systematic and organized exploration of the sanctuary during the designated night hours.
Providing additional insights, DFO Sarat Chandra Behera highlighted the potential benefits of the night safari, stating that wildlife enthusiasts, researchers, and students stand to gain valuable insights by observing animals up close. Beyond the promise of an enthralling experience, the initiative acts as a platform for learning, fostering a deeper understanding of the diverse flora and fauna inhabiting the Chandaka-Dampara Wildlife Sanctuary.
The night safari not only adds a new dimension to the sanctuary’s offerings but also aligns with the global trend of promoting wildlife conservation through responsible tourism. By allowing visitors to witness the activities of nocturnal animals, the initiative contributes to the broader goal of raising awareness about the importance of preserving natural habitats.
As the night safari gains popularity, it is expected to attract a diverse range of participants, including wildlife enthusiasts, students, and researchers eager to explore the sanctuary’s hidden treasures after dark. This novel experience not only promises an immersive journey into the wildlife sanctuary but also positions Bhubaneshwar as a destination that prioritizes environmental education and sustainable tourism practices.
