A Weekend Getaway in a Tranquil Jaipur Corner: Just Four Hours, Yet a World Apart from Delhi

Embarking on a winter weekend getaway to Jaipur is a commonplace notion for a Delhiite, almost as ordinary as enjoying an evening cup of chai. However, the allure becomes irresistible when accompanied by the sight of the sun setting over the Aravalli range.

On the inaugural long weekend of the year, we set our course for Anopura, a ‘luxury hideaway’ conveniently located within a short distance from Delhi. The journey, facilitated by the new Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, unfolded seamlessly at 120 kmph, amidst Texas-styled convenience stops and vibrant bougainvillea adorning the dividers. As we crossed the National Capital Region (NCR), the transition into Rajasthan marked the transformation of the sky from a dull grey to a welcoming shade of blue.

Anopura, situated four hours from Delhi, proved to be an oasis nestled at the foothills of the Aravalli, just before entering Jaipur city limits. This strategic location ensures an escape from the tourist-packed hustle of Jaipur while remaining conveniently close for those contemplating a swift visit to the Pink City.

Upon arrival at Anopura, the late-January sun threatened to bid adieu before we could conclude lunch. The dining setup, strategically placed in the heart of the resort’s farm under a Babul canopy, presented a feast of delectable local Rajasthani dishes. The Baati, prepared on an open chulha, exuded the authenticity of a bygone era, and the locally sourced vegetables from the farm added a farm-to-table charm to the culinary experience.

Accompanying lunch were cocktails from Anopura’s Cherry Bar, with the Guava Spice emerging as a personal favorite. This refreshing concoction, featuring guava, tabasco, red chili powder, and white rum, proved to be the ideal companion for a late-winter afternoon.

Our residence for two nights, Khas Niwas, offered an eclectic two-room villa adorned with dominating hues of dark pink and indigo. The handwritten welcome letter added a nostalgic touch to our stay, reminiscent of a time before autocorrect and expensive printer ink.

Anopura, dating back to 2010, underwent a transformation under the ownership of Jaipur’s Aditya Baheti. The property, spread across 80 acres, now boasts private pool villas, a luxurious farmstay called Khet Niwas, organic farms, flower farms, a dairy farm, experiential dining setups, and a spa. The commitment to rewild and regenerate the landscape aligns with the vision to preserve the rich historical and cultural heritage of the area.

A notable attraction is Paradise 360, a glass-walled villa with a temperature-controlled private pool, ensuring comfort even during the scorching summer months. The dedicated team, consisting of locals handpicked from surrounding villages, contributes to the restoration of the green cover, curating farm-to-table concepts, and delivering personalized guest experiences.

Exploring the resort’s dairy farm introduced us to Paul, the retired polo horse, Laila and Majnu, an inseparable camel couple, and an array of adorable farm animals. The rustic charm of the surroundings, combined with the warm hospitality, created an enchanting setting for our stay.

Anopura’s mornings commenced with tea from Sarla ji, followed by a fresh and farm-prepared breakfast. Evenings unfolded leisurely, with twilight bringing a riot of colors and the poolside providing a serene backdrop for relaxation.

As our stay at Anopura concluded, the memories of twilight by the pool, evenings filled with stories, and the tranquil ambiance lingered. It was a brief escape, a pause in the foggy October nights, before returning to the bustling Capital via the expressway, where time awaits with its myriad faces and the promise of preparation for the encounters ahead.
